Tower Roof repairs The contract is now signed and a start date of 14th July has been given by Proberts of Worcester. The work is estimated to last eight weeks, assuming no undiscovered problems, whilst removing the old roof. This luckily allows for the Flowers and Fun weekend 12th & 13th July to go ahead unimpeded by building works. During the work for health & safety reasons the church may have to be locked during working hours, normally 7.30am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday and Saturday 7.30am to 1.00 pm This will not affect normal use of the building on Sundays and for weddings and funerals. Except no bells can be rung as there will be an internal safety roof on top of the bell frame. Also the clock will be stopped as it has to be protected from the dust and part of the drive removed so it does not get damaged during the work this will take place on 8th July. 30th June 2008 Lots of updates this month. Ending with a Maundy Thursday Meal at Offenham church with around 30 people celebrating the Last Supper as it happened on that first occasion nearly 2000 years ago. And the good Friday workshop at Offenham School had a massive attendance of 48 children enjoying lots of activities from Hand Bells to decorating eggs. The workshop was concluded with a dramatisation of the story of Peter's Denial. The climax of the Easter Services around the benefice, a good time was enjoyed by all. Well Easter is coming fast, I am sure we will all be having mad moments and buying Easter eggs. Let us not forget the real meaning of this festive season, that God the Father showed the world he loved us so much that he let his own dear son Jesus be put to death as a ransom for our sinful lives. As we head into lent you will see the hyperlink bar change to Purple, the Royal colour, this is a reflection of the colours in churches at this time of year, it's meaning is to prepare for a king. It is also associated with mourning and so anticipates the pain and suffering at the crucifixion. |
